NEW YORK – (APD) Nach dem Massaker in Virginia haben US-Kirchenführer ein Ende des freien Waffenverkaufs gefordert. Der 23-jährige Koreaner Cho Seung Hui erschoss 32 Studenten der “Virginia Tech Universität” in Blacksburg mit zwei Handfeuerwaffen, bevor er sich selbst das Leben nahm.
Der Generalsekretär des Nationalen Rates der christlichen Kirchen in den USA (National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A./NCCCUSA), Bob Edgar, sagte, die “Epidemie” der Waffengewalt in den USA verpflichte dazu, der leichten Verbreitung von Handfeuerwaffen einen Riegel vorzuschieben. “Wie viele Pfarrer, Rabbiner und Imame müssen noch an Särgen unschuldiger Opfer von Waffengewalt stehen, nur weil die Nation sich weigert, der Weiterverbreitung solcher kleiner Massenvernichtungswaffen ein Ende zu bereiten?”, so Edgar in einer Stellungnahme des NCCUSA. Der Präsident habe trotz wiederholter Aufrufe von Religionsführern nichts unternommen. “Wie viele Menschen müssen noch sterben, bevor wie sagen, dass es genug ist?” fragte Edgar, der früher selbst Kongress-Abgeordneter war.
