Eine gemeinsame Delegation der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz und der Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland (EKD) besucht vom 23. bis 29. Juni 2007 die Kirchen im Libanon und in Ägypten. Der Besuch ist ein Zeichen der Solidarität mit den Christen vor Ort und will ein Signal für den Dialog mit den Muslimen setzen.

In einer Pressekonferenz zum Abschluss der Tage in Beirut unterstrichen die beiden Delegationsleiter, Landesbischof Dr. Johannes Friedrich (München) und Weihbischof Dr. Hans-Jochen Jaschke (Hamburg), am 25.06.2007: „Mehr denn je brauchen die Christen im Libanon unsere Solidarität. Sie stehen weiterhin unter großem Druck. Viele verlassen das Land. Die politischen Entwicklungen bleiben ungewiss.“

Der Besuch der Kirchenvertreter aus Deutschland hat bei den Kirchen im Libanon und auch unter den dortigen Muslimen große Aufmerksamkeit gefunden. Er wurde als Zeichen der Ermutigung und als Bestärkung des Friedenswillens der Religionen empfunden. In Gesprächen mit Vertretern der Sunniten und der Schiiten stellten Landesbischof Dr. Friedrich und Weihbischof Dr. Jaschke klar: „Es kann keine Alternative zum Dialog der Religionen geben. Wir fordern nachdrücklich eine Absage an jede Form der Gewalt im Namen der Religion. Religions- und Glaubensfreiheit sind die unverzichtbare Voraussetzung für das interreligiöse Gespräch.“

Höhepunkte der Libanon-Reise waren die sonntäglichen Gottesdienste mit den lokalen Gemeinden. Die katholische Seite kam dabei mit dem Generalobern des Libanesisch-Maronitischen Ordens Abt Elias zusammen. Darüber hinaus begegnete die Ökumenische Delegation dem Maronitischen Patriarchen Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir und dem Katholikos der Armenier Aram I.

Der Delegation, die am heutigen Dienstag nach Kairo weiterreist, gehören für die Deutsche Bischofskonferenz u. a. Weihbischof Dr. Hans-Jochen Jaschke (Hamburg) und Weihbischof Dr. Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst (Münster), für die EKD Landesbischof Dr. Johannes Friedrich (München) und Bischöfin Maria Jepsen (Hamburg) an. Beteiligt waren darüber hinaus Vertreter des Evangelischen Entwicklungsdienstes (EED) und des Evangelischen Missionswerkes (EMW) sowie von Missio Deutschland und des Deutschen Vereins vom Heiligen Lande.
