KAIRO – Ein Besucher-Team aus dem Genfer Sekretariat des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) hatte die Ehre, am Samstag, dem 8. Januar 2011, in Kairo (Ägypten) von Papst Shenouda III. von der Koptischen Orthodoxen Kirche empfangen zu werden. Pastor Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, der Generalsekretär des ÖRK, reiste mit der Gruppe nach Kairo, um das Beileid der ökumenischen Gemeinschaft nach dem tödlichen Bombenangriff, der am Neujahrstag eine Kirche in Alexandria getroffen hatte, persönlich zum Ausdruck zu bringen.
Tveit übermittelte Papst Shenouda das Mitgefühl und die Unterstützung der ÖRK-Mitgliedskirchen in dieser für Ägypten so schwierigen Zeit. Er versicherte, die Gemeinschaft der Kirchen, die gemeinsam den ÖRK bildeten, sei im Gebet für die Koptische Orthodoxe Kirche und das ganze ägyptische Volk vereint. Der ÖRK-Generalsekretär bezeichnete das Kreuz als Symbol der Solidarität, das Christen in aller Welt miteinander teilten. „Das Kreuz erinnert uns immer wieder an das Leid im menschlichen Leben und an Christi Tod am Kreuz, aber als christliches Symbol weist es auch auf die Auferstehung, auf Versöhnung und Frieden hin“, erklärte Tveit. GENF – Die Einheit der chinesischen Protestanten sei ein wesentlicher Grund für das rasche Wachstum der Kirche in China, erklärte der Generalsekretär des Chinesischen Christenrates, Pastor Kan Baoping, während eines Besuches im Ökumenischen Zentrum in Genf, Schweiz. Eine siebenköpfige Delegation mit hochrangigen Führungsverantwortlichen des Chinesischen Christenrates traf am Montag, 6. Dezember, den Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) und weitere Mitarbeitende kirchlicher Organisationen mit Sitz im Ökumenischen Zentrum.
Es handelte sich um den vierten derartigen Besuch im ÖRK-Sekretariat seit der Gründung des postkonfessionellen Chinesischen Christenrates (CCC) 1980. Der letzte Besuch hatte im Jahr 2003 stattgefunden. Der CCC, der 2009 rund 19 Millionen Kirchenglieder zählte, war 1991 auf der Vollversammlung in Canberra als Mitglied im ÖRK offiziell aufgenommen und so mit der weltweiten Kirchengemeinschaft wieder vereint worden. Bei einem Runden Tisch, organisiert von der ÖRK-Kommission der Kirchen für Internationale Angelegenheiten, hielten die Delegationsmitglieder Vorträge zu drei Themen, die für Leben und Zeugnis der Kirche in China wesentlich sind – „Religionspolitik in China“, „Die Rolle der Religion bei der Förderung einer ‚harmonischen Gesellschaft’“ und „Die Rolle der Kirche im heutigen China“.
Mit Blick auf die Religionspolitik und die Beziehungen zwischen Kirche und Staat war sich die Delegation einig, dass derzeit eine „goldene Ära für die Entwicklung der Religionen in China“ angebrochen sei. Die Kirche in China wirke außerdem auf verschiedenen Wegen mit, um vor Ort eine „harmonische Gesellschaft“ zu fördern.
CCC-Generalsekretär Kan Baoping erklärte, dass religiöse Gemeinschaften allgemein und insbesondere die protestantische Kirche in den letzten 30 Jahren in China ein rasantes Wachstum erlebt hätten. Er sagte, die Überwindung konfessioneller Spaltungen sei einer der Gründe für diese Vitalität der Kirchen. Sie sei auch deshalb wichtig, weil die chinesische Kultur mehr Wert auf Gemeinsamkeiten lege als auf Unterschiede.

GENF – Der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) fordert gemeinsam mit einem Bündnis kirchlicher Organisationen die Aufhebung von Beschränkungen, die die Verteilung humanitärer Hilfsgüter in Simbabwe verbieten. In einer am Donnerstag, 24. Juli, veröffentlichten gemeinsamen Stellungnahme beglückwünschen ÖRK, Reformierter Weltbund, Christlicher Studentenweltbund (WSCF), Weltbund der CVJF und Weltbund der CVJM die simbabwischen und afrikanischen Führungspersönlichkeiten, die an den laufenden Verhandlungen über eine gemeinsame Absichtserklärung beteiligt sind, in deren Rahmen die Gespräche über die Zukunft Simbabwes fortgesetzt werden sollen.
Weiterhin stellt das Schreiben fest, es müssten Schritte unternommen werden, um das Verbot der Verteilung von Hilfsgütern aufzuheben, sämtlichen Formen politischer Gewalt und Einschüchterung ein Ende zu setzen und ein Umfeld zu schaffen, in dem echte Heilung und Versöhnung geschehen können.

HARARE – (APD) Die christlichen Kirchen in Simbabwe haben erstmals gemeinsam die jüngste Präsidentenwahl als manipuliert verurteilt und das gewalttätige Vorgehen der von Staatschef Robert Mugabe geführten ZANU-PF-Partei kritisiert. Die Stichwahl von Ende Juni, nach der sich Mugabe zum Sieger erklärt hatte, spiegle nicht den Willen des Volkes wider, heisst es in einer gemeinsamen Erklärung der Kirchen vom 15. Juli. Die Kirchenführer beklagen demnach die politische Gewalt im Land, die von Vertreibung und Folter bis Mord reiche und die Bevölkerung traumatisiert habe.
Das Land brauche nun eine Regierung der nationalen Einheit und einen “Geist der Vergebung”, heisst es weiter. Die christlichen Kirchen, denen schätzungsweise die Hälfte der zimbabwischen Bevölkerung angehört, könnten zu dem Versöhnungsprozess beitragen. Allerdings gebe es derzeit in dem Land keine Kultur der Toleranz mehr, so der Generalsekretär der Katholischen Bischofskonferenz von Zimbabwe, Frederick Chiromba; “dabei könnten wir bei aller Unterschiedlichkeit vereint sein.”
