ATHEN – (APD) Der bisherige Metropolit von Theben, Erzbischof Hieronymos leitet künftig die orthodoxe Kirche Griechenlands. Der 70jährige wurde am 7. Februar in der griechischen Hauptstadt zum neuen Erzbischof von Athen und damit zum Oberhaupt der Orthodoxen Kirche von Griechenland gewählt. Er tritt die Nachfolge des am 28. Januar verstorbenen Erzbischof Christodoulos an.
Wie aus Athen verlautete, erhielt Hieronymos im zweiten Wahlgang 45 von 77 Stimmen. Das neue Kirchenoberhaupt gelte als offen und pflege gute Beziehungen zum Ökumenischen Patriarchat von Konstantinopel.

GENF – Die Nachricht vom Tod Seiner Seligkeit Christodoulos, Erzbischof von Athen und ganz Griechenland, der gestern im Alter von 69 Jahren in seinem Haus in Psyhico (Athen) gestorben ist, wurde vom Ökumenischen Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) und seinem Generalsekretär Pfarrer Dr. Samuel Kobia mit “tiefer Traurigkeit” aufgenommen. In einem Beileidsschreiben an die Kirche von Griechenland, welcher der verstorbene Erzbischof seit 1998 vorgestanden hatte, würdigt Kobia den Erzbischof als “ein begnadetes Oberhaupt seiner Kirche, einen orthodoxen Primas mit einer interessanten und herausfordernden Sicht der modernen Welt, einen Kirchenführer, der mit Mut, Vision, Beharrlichkeit und Geduld, Bedacht und Demut den Weg der christlichen Einheit beschritten hat”.

LIMBURG – Bei aller Verschiedenheit von Herkunft und Sprache und der Vielfalt theologischer und liturgischer Traditionen sind Katholiken und orientalisch-orthodoxe Christen in einer „von Gott geschenkten Einheit verbunden“. Darauf hat der Limburger Diözesanadministrator Dr. Günther Geis am Freitagabend, 1. Juni, im Limburger Georgsdom hingewiesen. Beim ersten Treffen mit Vertretern der altorientalischen Kirchen, die im Bistum Limburg ihren Sitz haben, wurden am Abend im Priesterseminar Formen des künftigen Miteinanders erörtert.
Zunächst hatten sich rund 30 Vertreter altorientalischer Gemeinden, die ihren Sitz überwiegend im Rhein-Main-Gebiet haben, zu einem feierlichen Vespergottesdienst mit den katholischen Gastgebern im Limburger Dom getroffen. Bei dem traditionellen kirchlichen Abendgebet sangen die Limburger Domsingknaben im Wechsel mit den Gottesdienstbesuchern die Psalmen. Die Lesung wurde in deutscher, koptischer und aramäischer Sprache gelesen. Auch die Fürbitten und das Vaterunser trugen Vertreter aller Gemeinden in ihren Muttersprachen vor. (weiterlesen…)

HILDESHEIM – (bph) Für ein besseres Miteinander mit den orthodoxen Kirchen warb der frühere Hildesheimer Bischof Dr. Josef Homeyer beim 22. Ökumenischen Studientag des Bistums am Donnerstagabend im Ökumenischen Gemeindezentrum Hannover-Mühlenberg. Außerdem müsse man stärker auf den Islam zugehen, so Homeyer vor mehr als 250 Teilnehmern aus katholischen, evangelischen und orthodoxen Gemeinden.
Es gibt wohl einen gemeinsamen europäischen Kulturraum, aber keine Liste europäischer Wertvorstellungen, zeigte sich Homeyer in seinem Eröffnungsreferat überzeugt. Die Grenzen dieses Kulturraums seien offen und in der Auseinandersetzung mit neuem Gedankengut „immer wieder neu zu erringen“, sagte Homeyer, der als „Europabischof“ lange Jahre die Kommission der Europäischen Bischofskonferenzen (ComECE) geleitet hat. Daher sei die europäische Einigung ein Prozess, zu dem auch die Auseinandersetzung mit den orthodoxen Kirchen und mit dem Islam gehöre.

HILDESHEIM/HANNOVER – (bph) Die katholischen Bistümer in Niedersachsen verpflichten sich zur ökumenischen Zusammenarbeit. Dr. Josef Homeyer, der emeritierte Bischof von Hildesheim, wird im Rahmen eines feierlichen ökumenischen Gottesdienstes für die Bistümer Hildesheim, Osnabrück und den Offizialatsbezirk Vechta die „Charta Oecumenica“ unterzeichnen. Der Gottesdienst findet am Sonntag, 13. Mai, um 18 Uhr in der Marktkirche Hannover statt.
Neben Homeyer unterschreiben auch Repräsentanten der anderen Mitglieder der „Arbeitsgemeinschaft christlicher Kirchen im Lande Niedersachsen (ACKN)“ diese Charta. Die Predigt hält Dr. Margot Käßmann, Landesbischöfin der Evangelisch-Lutherischen Landeskirche Hannovers.
