GENF – Die Nachricht vom Tod Seiner Seligkeit Christodoulos, Erzbischof von Athen und ganz Griechenland, der gestern im Alter von 69 Jahren in seinem Haus in Psyhico (Athen) gestorben ist, wurde vom Ökumenischen Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) und seinem Generalsekretär Pfarrer Dr. Samuel Kobia mit “tiefer Traurigkeit” aufgenommen. In einem Beileidsschreiben an die Kirche von Griechenland, welcher der verstorbene Erzbischof seit 1998 vorgestanden hatte, würdigt Kobia den Erzbischof als “ein begnadetes Oberhaupt seiner Kirche, einen orthodoxen Primas mit einer interessanten und herausfordernden Sicht der modernen Welt, einen Kirchenführer, der mit Mut, Vision, Beharrlichkeit und Geduld, Bedacht und Demut den Weg der christlichen Einheit beschritten hat”.

ARNOLDSHEIN – Der „Arbeitskreis Friedenstheologie von Church and Peace und Internationaler Versöhnungsbund/Deutscher Zweig“ fordert anlässlich einer ökumenischen Konsultation in Arnoldshain, die Kirchen sollen „ohne den Schutz von Waffen solidarisch mit den Schutzlosen werden“. Damit begegnet der Arbeitskreis einem Dokument der ÖRK zur innerhalb der UN diskutierten “Schutzpflicht” gegenüber bedrohten Bevökerungen.
In dem auf seiner Vollversammlung 2006 in Porto Alegre beschlossenen Dokument des Ökumenischen Rats der Kirchen (ÖRK) wird ausführlich die Priorität der Prävention von Konfikten betont, darüber hinaus jedoch militärische Gewaltanwendung gebilligt. Kirchen sollen die internationale Gemeinschaft „aktiv zur Intervention zu humanitären Zwecken aufrufen“ (Punkt 18). Einer genuin gewaltfreien Haltung wird zwar Achtung und Respekt (Punkt 4 und 14) bekundet, angesichts der ausdrücklichen Legitimation und sogar Forderung des Einsatzes militärischer Gewalt bleibt dies jedoch folgenlos.
Aus Sorge, dass hier mit Versatzstücken der Lehre des gerechten Krieges erneut militärische Gewaltanwendung kirchlich legitimiert wird, formulierte der Arbeitskreis Friedenstheologie in Arnoldshain (16.-18.11.07) eine Stellungnahme. Darin wird der behaupteten militärischen „Schutzpflicht“ die Bereitschaft „für Christus zu leiden“ gegenübergestellt. Hier die Stellungnahme im Wortlaut.

BAAR – Eine zweite Dialogrunde zwischen Mitgliedern des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) und verschiedener Pfingstkirchen hat letzte Woche in Baar in der Schweiz begonnen. Eine Gruppe von siebzehn evangelischen, orthodoxen und pfingstkirchlich orientierten Christen/innen kam zusammen, um die Arbeit fortzuführen, die die erste Gemeinsame Beratungsgruppe des ÖRK und der Pfingstkirchen in der Zeit von 2000 bis 2005 geleistet hatte.
In seiner Reflexion über die Bedeutung dieses Treffens erklärte Cecil M. Robeck Jr., Professor für Kirchengeschichte und Ökumene im Fuller Theological Seminary, der die Pfingstkirchen auch dieses Mal als Ko-Vorsitzender der Gruppe vertritt, dass “dieses Treffen uns einen sehr guten Start in unsere gemeinsame Arbeit der nächsten fünf Jahre ermöglicht hat”. ÖRK – Vom 15.-23. September werden kirchliche Führungspersonen und Gemeinden in New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., und New Orleans einem internationalen ökumenischen Team auf Besuchsreise in den Vereinigten Staaten über ihre Erfahrungen mit einem von Gewalt geprägten Umfeld berichten. Die aus Südafrika, dem Libanon, Pakistan und Brasilien stammenden Teammitglieder sind beauftragt, die Solidarität der Kirchen weltweit mit den US-amerikanischen Kirchen zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Gleichzeitig wollen sie sich über deren Friedensarbeit im Zusammenhang mit städtischer Gewalt und Schusswaffenproblematik sowie dem Irakkrieg und zur Friedensstiftung in örtlichen Gemeinschaften informieren.

SIBIU – (ÖRK) “Heute mehr denn je benötigen wir die Einheit der Kirchen in Europa, um Zeugnis von einer Zukunft abzulegen, die über die Vision einer gemeinsamen wirtschaftlichen und politischen Zukunft hinausgeht und dafür einsteht, dass ein erfülltes Leben in Jesus Christus allen Menschen, überall, Hoffnung schenkt”, sagte der Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Pfr. Dr. Samuel Kobia, am 5. September in Sibiu, Rumänien.
Kobia sprach vor ca. 2100 Delegierten aus einem Großteil der europäischen Kirchentraditionen anlässlich der Eröffnung der Dritten Europäischen Ökumenischen Versammlung, die er als „die weltweit größte regelmäßig stattfindende Zusammenkunft von kirchenleitenden Verantwortlichen aus römisch-katholischen, orthodoxen, anglikanischen und protestantischen Kirchen“ bezeichnete.
