MADRID – (ÖRK) Dialog ist “der beste Weg zum gegenseitigen Verständnis und zur Zusammenarbeit in den zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen wie auch im friedlichen Zusammenleben der Nationen”, hieß es in dem Schlusskommuniqué, das von den Organisatoren der Weltkonferenz für Dialog herausgegeben wurde und die breite Zustimmung der Konferenz fand, die am Freitag, dem 18. Juli in Madrid, Spanien, zu Ende ging.
“Dialog ist lebensnotwendig. Er ist einer der wichtigsten Wege zum gegenseitigen Kennenlernen, zur Zusammenarbeit, zum Meinungsaustausch und zur Wahrheitsfindung, die allesamt zum Wohlergehen der Menschheit beitragen.” Das Kommuniqué ruft nachdrücklich zum kontinuierlichen Dialog zwischen den Reglegionen, Zivilisationen und Kulturen auf, ersucht die UN-Generalversammlung, die Empfehlungen dieser Weltkonferenz zu unterstützen, und bringt positive Erwartungen an Folgeveranstaltungen zum Ausdruck.

VOLOS – In den vergangenen zehn Jahren haben die orthodoxen Frauen wichtige Meilensteine im Blick auf ihre Mitarbeit in der Kirche setzen können, doch sind viele ihrer Anliegen immer noch nicht aufgegriffen worden. Diese Bilanz zogen die Teilnehmerinnen einer internationalen Zusammenkunft orthodoxer Frauen. Vom 8.-12. Juni diskutierten sie in Volos, Griechenland, über Mitwirkung, Dienst und Anliegen orthodoxer Frauen in der Kirche und in der ökumenischen Bewegung.
Seit der letzten inter-orthodoxen Frauenkonsultation 1997 in Istanbul, Türkei, sind über zehn Jahre vergangen, in denen sich die Beteiligung der Frauen am Leben der Kirche verbessert hat. Bedeutende Meilensteine sind u.a. die Anerkennung von Frauenfragen durch die kirchlichen Strukturen und die Mitwirkung von Frauen in einer Reihe von kirchlichen Diensten und Entscheidungsprozessen.

GENF – Zwei internationale ökumenische Organisationen appellieren an die UNO, die Südafrikanische Entwicklungsgemeinschaft und die Afrikanische Union, “[ihre] Anstrengungen im Blick auf die sich rapide verschlechternde Lage in Simbabwe zu verstärken”. Zu den wichtigsten Anliegen zählen die Bereitstellung von Nothilfe, eine Verschiebung der Stichwahl und die Verantwortung der internationalen Gemeinschaft, zum Schutz der Menschen einzugreifen.
In einem am Dienstag in Genf veröffentlichten Brief ersuchen der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) und der Christliche Studentenweltbund (WSCF) die drei internationalen Einrichtungen, “den humanitären Bedürfnissen des simbabwischen Volkes, seiner freien Religionsausübung, der Destabilisierung der politischen Situation und der Dringlichkeit einer Beendigung der Menschenrechtsverletzungen höchste Aufmerksamkeit” zu schenken.

FRANKFURT – (EKD) Eine sechsköpfige Delegation des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) besucht Frankfurt/M am 27. und 28. Juni 2008. Dieser Besuch steht im Zusammenhang mit der „Dekade zur Überwindung von Gewalt“, zu der der ÖRK für die Jahre 2001 bis 2010 aufgerufen hat. Das ökumenische Besuchsteam ist zwischen dem 27. Juni und dem 4. Juli in Deutschland unterwegs, um die Begegnung mit kirchlichen Multiplikatoren, Gemeindegliedern und Kirchenleitungen zu suchen, die sich für die Überwindung der unterschiedlichsten Formen von Gewalt engagieren. Das Besuchsteam möchte dabei mit möglichst vielen Menschen aus unterschiedlichen christlichen Kirchen in Kontakt kommen.
Zur Delegation gehört der Stellvertretende Generalsekretär der ÖRK, Georges Lemopoulos, Pfarrerin Sabine Udodesku aus dem Genfer Büro des ÖRK, der anglikanische Erzbischof Bernard Ntahoturi aus Burundi, die griechisch-orthodoxe Theologin Aikaterini Pekiridou, Thomas Yonker aus der US-amerikanischen Kirche Disciples of Christ und Jannette Bächhold-Ludwig von den lutherischen Kirche Brasiliens.
