BERLIN – (APD) Pastor Peter Jörgensen (44), Seelsorger der Baptistengemeinde Berlin-Wedding, tritt am 1. August das Amt des Beauftragten der Vereinigung Evangelischer Freikirchen (VEF) am Sitz der deutschen Bundesregierung an. Er ist Nachfolger von Dr. Dietmar Lütz, der nach siebenjähriger Tätigkeit seit Anfang 2007 als Pastor in einer Hamburger Baptistengemeinde wirkt. Jörgensen wird wie Lütz eine 20-prozentige Beauftragung wahrnehmen. Zur VEF gehören 14 Freikirchen mit rund 300.000 Mitgliedern.
Freikirchen und freikirchliche Gemeindeverbände in Deutschland sind bereits seit 1926 in einer Arbeitsgemeinschaft, der Vereinigung Evangelischer Freikirchen (VEF), zusammengeschlossen. Diese dient der Förderung gemeinsamer Aufgaben, der Vertiefung zwischenkirchlicher Beziehungen sowie der Vertretung gemeinsamer Belange nach aussen.

TESSIN, SCHWEIZ – (APD) Mit einem umstrittenen Entscheid zum Recht auf freie Kultusausübung von Studierenden jüdischen und adventistischen Glaubens hat der Tessiner Staatsrat am 30. Mai nach Ansicht der Leitung der Freikirche der Siebenten-Tags-Adventisten gegen das Grundrecht der religiösen Freiheit verstossen.
Der am Liceo di Lugano 2 studierende Tessiner Schüler C.B. , dessen religiöse Überzeugung als adventistischer Christ der Schulleitung bekannt war, wurde aufgeboten, die Maturitätsprüfungen an den sonst unterrichtsfreien Samstagen vom 2., 9. und 16. Juni abzulegen. Bekanntlich ist es Schülerinnen und Schülern strenggläubiger Juden und Adventisten aus Gewissensgründen nicht möglich an ihrem Ruhetag, dem Samstag (Sabbat), an Unterrichtsstunden oder Prüfungen teilzunehmen. Der Schüler hatte am 19. März die Direktion des Lyzeums gebeten, ihn von der Teilnahme an den Prüfungs-Samstagen zu dispensieren, und ihm mit einer individuellen Lösung für einen alternativen Nachprüfungstermin an einem anderen Wochentag behilflich zu sein. Die Direktion des Lyzeums hatte den Antrag am 30. März nicht nur abgelehnt, sondern ihn erneut zu den schriftlichen Maturaprüfungen an den drei Juni-Samstagen aufgefordert.

DEERFIELD – Am Samstag, dem 12. Mai verlieh die Trinity International University (TIU) Präses Peter Strauch den Titel der theologischen Doktorwürde „Doctor of Divinity“ ehrenhalber. Die Ehrenpromotion fand in einem akademischen Festakt der US-amerikanischen Universität mit 250 Absolventen und rund 1.000 Gästen statt. Die Fakultät würdigte Strauchs Lebensleistung in seinen leitenden Funktionen als Vorsitzender der Evangelischen Allianz in Deutschland und als Präses des Bundes Freier evangelischer Gemeinden.
In seinen vielen literarischen Publikationen habe er sich stets für eine „transparente biblische Spiritualität“ in Verbindung mit einer „evangelistischen Leidenschaft“ eingesetzt. Dr. Gregory Waybright, Präsident der TIU, unterstrich Strauchs Leistung als Brückenbauer unter den deutschsprachigen Christen. Als „kraftvolle Stimme“ sei ihm eine vertiefte Zusammenarbeit im deutschen Evangelikalismus gelungen. Auch zahlreiche Lieder von Strauch gehörten heute zum festen Liedgut vieler Kirchen.

KARLSRUHE – Am 18. Mai 2007 wird um 20:00 Uhr in der Ev. Stadtkirche Karlsruhe-Durlach ein Täuferoratorium aufgeführt. Darin erinnern Texte (Auswahl: Thomas Nauerth) und Musik (Paul Mertens) an die gewaltfreien Gemeinden der Täuferbewegung des 16. Jahrhunderts. Unterwegs in der Nachfolge Jesu, versammelt oft unter freiem Himmel, verkündigten sie das angebrochene Reich Gottes. Weil sie Waffendienst, Eid und Kindertaufe ablehnten und an die Möglichkeit eines gewaltfreien und geschwisterlichen Lebens glaubten, wurden sie als “Wiedertäufer”, “Schwärmer” und “Rottengeister” bezeichnet und von kirchlicher und weltlicher Obrigkeit als Aufrührer verdächtigt. Tausende wurden vertrieben, verfolgt, gefangen, gefoltert und tausendfach hingerichtet. Auch Markgraf Philipp von Baden drohte in einem Mandat von 1527 mit der Todesstrafe.
Noch immer gelten sie nach dem Augsburger Bekenntnis als verdammt. Die Nachfahren von Verfolgern und Verfolgten finden sich heute zum gemeinsamen Gedenken zusammen. In der Ökumenischen Dekade zur Überwindung von Gewalt, 2001-2010, sind Schritte der Versöhnung und der Umkehr möglich.

WITTEN – Die Zelt-Mission des Bundes Freier evangelischer Gemeinden (Witten) feiert im Juni ihr 50-jähriges Bestehen. Nach Angaben ihres Leiters, Jan-Peter Graap (36), konnten bei den rund 1.150 Einsätzen in den letzten fünf Jahrzehnten rund 1,7 Millionen Menschen persönlich mit dem Evangelium erreicht werden. „Es ist auch mit ein Verdienst der Zelt-Mission“, so Jan-Peter Graap, „dass der Bund in den vergangenen 25 Jahren von 270 Gemeinden auf heute 420 Gemeinden mit 36.000 Mitgliedern angewachsen ist.“ Deshalb habe der Bund FeG im vergangenen Jahr auch nicht gezögert, die Anschaffung eines weiteren modernen Pavillons zu beschließen.
Jan-Peter Graap (Kassel), der für das Referat Evangelisation und Zelt-Mission in seiner Freikirche verantwortlich ist, äußerte sich darüber dankbar, dass sein Gemeindebund in die Arbeit der Zelt-Mission weiter investiere, während in anderen christlichen Werken diese Form der Evangelisation eingestellt wurde. Graap wörtlich: „Es gibt wirklich gute Gründe, diese Arbeit in Zukunft fortzusetzen. Denn Zelt-Tage bieten den Gemeinden einen besonderen Raum und eine Atmosphäre Menschen zu Jesus einzuladen. Die Hemmschwelle für Gäste ist niedrig, die Mitarbeiter erleben eine besondere Zeit der Gemeinschaft und der Entfaltung ihrer Begabungen, in der Verkündigung wird das Evangelium auf den Punkt gebracht.“
