SOCHAUX / GENF (LWI) – Die Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche Frankreichs (EELF) und die Reformierte Kirche von Frankreich (ERF) wollen Gespräche aufnehmen, die bis zum Jahr 2013 zur Bildung einer Vereinigten Protestantischen Kirche Frankreichs führen sollen. Der Einigungsprozess wurde bei den ersten gemeinsamen Synodalsitzungen von EELF und ERF beschlossen, die im Rahmen der Tagungen der landesweiten Synoden beider Kirchen vom 17. bis 20. Mai im ostfranzösischen Sochaux nahe Montbéliard stattfanden.
Der Brückenschlag zwischen beiden Kirchen wurde 2002 durch den Aufruf verschiedener Gemeinden und Regionalsynoden an die jeweiligen nationalen Komitees initiiert, eine „stärkere und sichtbarere Einheit“ zwischen beiden Kirchen herbeizuführen.

HILDESHEIM – (bph) Für ein besseres Miteinander mit den orthodoxen Kirchen warb der frühere Hildesheimer Bischof Dr. Josef Homeyer beim 22. Ökumenischen Studientag des Bistums am Donnerstagabend im Ökumenischen Gemeindezentrum Hannover-Mühlenberg. Außerdem müsse man stärker auf den Islam zugehen, so Homeyer vor mehr als 250 Teilnehmern aus katholischen, evangelischen und orthodoxen Gemeinden.
Es gibt wohl einen gemeinsamen europäischen Kulturraum, aber keine Liste europäischer Wertvorstellungen, zeigte sich Homeyer in seinem Eröffnungsreferat überzeugt. Die Grenzen dieses Kulturraums seien offen und in der Auseinandersetzung mit neuem Gedankengut „immer wieder neu zu erringen“, sagte Homeyer, der als „Europabischof“ lange Jahre die Kommission der Europäischen Bischofskonferenzen (ComECE) geleitet hat. Daher sei die europäische Einigung ein Prozess, zu dem auch die Auseinandersetzung mit den orthodoxen Kirchen und mit dem Islam gehöre.

DEERFIELD – Am Samstag, dem 12. Mai verlieh die Trinity International University (TIU) Präses Peter Strauch den Titel der theologischen Doktorwürde „Doctor of Divinity“ ehrenhalber. Die Ehrenpromotion fand in einem akademischen Festakt der US-amerikanischen Universität mit 250 Absolventen und rund 1.000 Gästen statt. Die Fakultät würdigte Strauchs Lebensleistung in seinen leitenden Funktionen als Vorsitzender der Evangelischen Allianz in Deutschland und als Präses des Bundes Freier evangelischer Gemeinden.
In seinen vielen literarischen Publikationen habe er sich stets für eine „transparente biblische Spiritualität“ in Verbindung mit einer „evangelistischen Leidenschaft“ eingesetzt. Dr. Gregory Waybright, Präsident der TIU, unterstrich Strauchs Leistung als Brückenbauer unter den deutschsprachigen Christen. Als „kraftvolle Stimme“ sei ihm eine vertiefte Zusammenarbeit im deutschen Evangelikalismus gelungen. Auch zahlreiche Lieder von Strauch gehörten heute zum festen Liedgut vieler Kirchen.

BERLIN – Am 9. Mai stellt sich in Berlin die neu gegründete “Stiftung Sozialer Protestantismus” der Öffentlichkeit vor. Die Stiftung, die aus der Evangelischen Sozialakademie Friedewald hervorgegangen ist, hat sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, die Umbrüche in der Wirtschafts- und Sozialpolitik mit evangelischer Sozialethik zu begleiten und mitzugestalten. Sie will Perspektiven einer menschlichen Gestaltung der Globalisierung in der Tradition der Sozialen Marktwirtschaft entwickeln und den Protestantismus in seiner sozialen Prägekraft in der Gesellschaft profilieren. Dabei wird sie durch Persönlichkeiten aus Kirche, Politik und Arbeitswelt unterstützt.
Im Rahmen der Auftaktveranstaltung diskutieren der Vorsitzende des Rates der Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland (EKD), Bischof Wolfgang Huber, und Bundesfinanzminister Peer Steinbrück über Perspektiven des “Sozialen Protestantismus in einer globalisierten Welt”.

KARLSRUHE – Am 18. Mai 2007 wird um 20:00 Uhr in der Ev. Stadtkirche Karlsruhe-Durlach ein Täuferoratorium aufgeführt. Darin erinnern Texte (Auswahl: Thomas Nauerth) und Musik (Paul Mertens) an die gewaltfreien Gemeinden der Täuferbewegung des 16. Jahrhunderts. Unterwegs in der Nachfolge Jesu, versammelt oft unter freiem Himmel, verkündigten sie das angebrochene Reich Gottes. Weil sie Waffendienst, Eid und Kindertaufe ablehnten und an die Möglichkeit eines gewaltfreien und geschwisterlichen Lebens glaubten, wurden sie als “Wiedertäufer”, “Schwärmer” und “Rottengeister” bezeichnet und von kirchlicher und weltlicher Obrigkeit als Aufrührer verdächtigt. Tausende wurden vertrieben, verfolgt, gefangen, gefoltert und tausendfach hingerichtet. Auch Markgraf Philipp von Baden drohte in einem Mandat von 1527 mit der Todesstrafe.
Noch immer gelten sie nach dem Augsburger Bekenntnis als verdammt. Die Nachfahren von Verfolgern und Verfolgten finden sich heute zum gemeinsamen Gedenken zusammen. In der Ökumenischen Dekade zur Überwindung von Gewalt, 2001-2010, sind Schritte der Versöhnung und der Umkehr möglich.
