SILVER SPRING – (APD) Eine Delegation des Baptistischen Weltbundes (BWA) hatte am 11. März eine Unterredung mit dem Präsidenten der Generalkonferenz (Weltkirchenleitung) der Siebenten-Tags-Adventisten, Pastor Jan Paulsen. Bei dem Gespräch im Verwaltungsgebäude der Generalkonferenz in Silver Spring, Maryland/USA, ging es um Glaubensüberzeugungen, welche die beiden weltweiten Konfessionsfamilien miteinander teilen, und um das Engagement für die Religionsfreiheit.
“Adventisten und Baptisten lehren gemeinsam, dass Jesus Christus der Mittelpunkt des Glaubens ist, und vertreten eine Vielzahl derselben Werte”, hob Pastor John Graz, Direktor für Öffentliche Angelegenheiten und Religionsfreiheit der Generalkonferenz, hervor. “Wir setzen uns auch beide für die Glaubens- und Gewissensfreiheit ein und arbeiten in vielen Ländern eng zusammen, um dieses Freiheitsgut zu bewahren und zu fördern.”
Der aus Jamaika stammende Pastor Neville Callam (58), seit 2007 Generalsekretär des Baptistischen Weltbundes in Falls Church, Virginia/USA, erwiderte: “Es gehört zum Glaubensverständnis der Baptisten, die Menschenwürde zu achten.” Daher wäre es gut, bei gemeinsamen Anliegen in Zukunft noch enger zusammenzuwirken. Zur WEA-Delegation gehörte auch der Direktor für Evangelisation und Bildung des Baptistischen Weltbundes, Fausto Vasconcelos.
Der Präsident der adventistischen Weltkirchenleitung, Jan Paulsen (74) befürwortete ebenfalls ein gemeinsames Wirken beider Konfessionen für die Religionsfreiheit. “Zu einem kraftvollen Einsatz für den Schutz der religiösen Freiheit gehört, dass viele sich daran beteiligen. Lasst uns nach Möglichkeiten der Zusammenarbeit im Namen Christi suchen, um ihn besser bezeugen zu können.”
Der Baptistische Weltbund wurde 1905 in London gegründet und umfasst 214 baptistische Gemeinschaften mit über 37 Millionen erwachsen getauften Mitgliedern in 119 Ländern. Die Kirche der Siebenten-Tags-Adventisten ist in 201 Ländern mit rund 16 Millionen erwachsen getauften Mitgliedern vertreten.
