GENF – (ÖRK) Der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) fordert erneut einen Waffenstillstand im Gazastreifen und ruft die Christinnen und Christen in der Welt auf für Frieden zu beten und sich durch ihre Regierungen für einen gerechten Frieden in Israel und Palästina einzusetzen.
In einer Botschaft an die ÖRK-Mitgliedskirchen im Nahen Osten, die auch an die anderen Mitgliedskirchen weltweit gesandt wurde, rief der ÖRK-Generalsekretär Dr. Samuel Kobia am 7. Januar “alle Christinnen und Christen in der Welt auf, für Frieden zu beten und, wann immer möglich, ihre Regierungen aufzufordern und zu ermutigen, sich für die Überwindung der Feindschaft und für Versöhnung einzusetzen.”
Kobia forderte erneut das Ende der Feindseligkeiten und neue Verhandlungen für ein Abkommen, durch das ein gerechter und dauerhafter Frieden für beide Seiten, Palästinenser und Israelis, gesichert wird.
Ein solches Friedensabkommen müsse “die Wiederherstellung der Waffenruhe auf beiden Seiten der Grenze und eine schnellere Aufhebung der israelischen Blockade des Gazastreifens” vorsehen und die “Achtung des Völkerrechts in Bezug auf Menschenrechte, humanitäre Hilfe und den Schutz der Zivilbevölkerung in Krisengebieten seitens der Behörden” beinhalten.
Die Botschaft des ÖRK-Generalsekretärs ist die Antwort auf die Aufrufe und Sorgen der Patriarchen und Oberhäupter der Kirchen in Jerusalem bezüglich der aktuellen Situation im Gazastreifen.

Schade dass wir es bislang noch nicht geschafft haben, an einem Ort gemeinsam mit den Muslimen des Landes zusammen für Frieden zu beten. Das wäre wirklich ein guter Schritt in Richtung akzeptanz anderer Religionen und beiderseitigem Verständnis.
