PANAMA – Die vom Ökumenischen Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) veranstaltete Dekade zur Überwindung von Gewalt (DOV) erklärt die Karibik zu ihrem Schwerpunkt für 2009 mit dem Thema: “Ein einig Band der Liebe: Für Frieden in der Karibik”.
Der Karibik-Fokus der Dekade zur Überwindung von Gewalt will Kirchen und Bewegungen, die sich in der Region für Frieden einsetzen, stärken und unterstützen und das Bewusstsein der Kirchen für das Gewaltpotenzial schärfen, das Problemen wie Migration und Menschenhandel, HIV und AIDS, Drogenmissbrauch und Drogenhandel inhärent ist.
„Wir möchten die Botschaft vermitteln, dass die Karibik mehr ist als Sonne, Sand und Strand“, heißt es in einem Bericht der Teilnehmenden.
Der Karibik-Fokus wurde anlässlich einer Zusammenkunft von Vertretern und Vertreterinnen von Kirchen und regionaler sowie internationaler ökumenischer Organisationen eröffnet, die vom 11.-14. November in Panama-Stadt zusammengekommen waren. Vier Ländern soll im Laufe des nächsten Jahres besondere Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet werden: Haiti, Grenada, Surinam und Kuba.
An dem Treffen nahmen rd. 30 Vertreter/innen nationaler Kirchenräte, der Karibischen Konferenz der Kirchen sowie der ÖRK-Regionalgruppe für die Karibik teil. Gastgeber war der Ökumenische Ausschuss von Panama.
Die Karibik wird auch der Tagungsort der Internationalen ökumenischen Friedenskonvokation sein, die den abschließenden Höhepunkt der Dekade zur Überwindung von Gewalt bildet. Die Konvokation wird im Mai 2011 nach Kingston, Jamaika, einberufen werden.
Die Dekade zur Überwindung von Gewalt (2001-2010): Kirchen für Frieden und Versöhnung ist eine Initiative des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen. Sie lädt Kirchen, ökumenische Organisationen und alle Menschen guten Willens ein, für Frieden, Gerechtigkeit und Versöhnung zusammenzuarbeiten.
