TIFLIS – (APD) Der georgisch-orthodoxe Katholikos-Patriarch Elias II. hat sowohl die georgischen Behörden als auch die Südosseten dringend aufgefordert, “keine Anstrengung zu unterlassen, um zu einem Waffenstillstand zu kommen und alle Probleme friedlich zu lösen”. Südossetien liegt im Norden Georgiens an der Grenze zur russischen Teilrepublik Nordossetien.
Das müsse im Interesse aller sein, “die das menschliche Leben und die friedliche Entwicklung hochschätzen”, heisst es in einer am 8. August veröffentlichten Botschaft des Katholikos-Patriarchen. Jahrhundertealte Freundschaft und familiäre Beziehungen würden das georgische und das ossetische Volk verbinden, erinnerte Elias II. Noch wichtiger sei aber, dass die beiden Völker durch ihr christliches Bekenntnis geeint seien: “Wir müssen friedlich zusammenleben ohne Blutvergiessen”. (weiterlesen…)
