HARARE – (APD) Die christlichen Kirchen in Simbabwe haben erstmals gemeinsam die jüngste Präsidentenwahl als manipuliert verurteilt und das gewalttätige Vorgehen der von Staatschef Robert Mugabe geführten ZANU-PF-Partei kritisiert. Die Stichwahl von Ende Juni, nach der sich Mugabe zum Sieger erklärt hatte, spiegle nicht den Willen des Volkes wider, heisst es in einer gemeinsamen Erklärung der Kirchen vom 15. Juli. Die Kirchenführer beklagen demnach die politische Gewalt im Land, die von Vertreibung und Folter bis Mord reiche und die Bevölkerung traumatisiert habe.
Das Land brauche nun eine Regierung der nationalen Einheit und einen “Geist der Vergebung”, heisst es weiter. Die christlichen Kirchen, denen schätzungsweise die Hälfte der zimbabwischen Bevölkerung angehört, könnten zu dem Versöhnungsprozess beitragen. Allerdings gebe es derzeit in dem Land keine Kultur der Toleranz mehr, so der Generalsekretär der Katholischen Bischofskonferenz von Zimbabwe, Frederick Chiromba; “dabei könnten wir bei aller Unterschiedlichkeit vereint sein.”
Der Präsidentschaftskandidat der oppositionellen “Bewegung für den demokratischen Wandel” (MDC), Morgan Tsvangirai, hatte die erste Wahl Ende März laut frühen Hochrechnungen gegen Mugabe gewonnen. Das offizielle Ergebnis machte hingegen eine Stichwahl erforderlich. Mugabes Partei ZANU-PF ging daraufhin mit Gewalt gegen Anhänger der MDC vor, weshalb Tsvangirai schliesslich auf seine Kandidatur verzichtete. Nach Angaben seiner Partei wurden seit März 113 MDC-Mitglieder getötet, 5.000 gelten als vermisst. Mehr als 200.000 Menschen sollen vertrieben worden sein.
Zu den Unterzeichnern der gemeinsamen Erklärung gehören die drei wichtigsten Kirchenverbände des Landes, die Evangelische Allianz von Simbabwe (EFZ), die Katholische Bischofskonferenz von Simbabwe (CZBC) und der Kirchenrat von Simbabwe (ZCC).
Von den rund 15,5 Millionen Einwohnern Simbabwes sind zwischen 40 und 50 Prozent Christen (Protestanten, einschliesslich Adventisten, Anglikaner und Methodisten; römische Katholiken sowie unabhängige afrikanische Kirchen). Daneben gibt es kleinere Minderheiten von Muslimen, Juden und Anhänger von indigenen Religionen.

Ich finde, dass die Kirche ein taktisch guten Zug gemacht hat. Leider herrscht in Simbabwe eine Diktatur vor. Der diktatorische Staat wird sich höchstwahrscheinlich nicht um die Forderungen der Kirche kümmern. Das ist natürlich sehr schlecht. Deshalb muss man zu Alternativen greifen.
