GENF – Zwei internationale ökumenische Organisationen appellieren an die UNO, die Südafrikanische Entwicklungsgemeinschaft und die Afrikanische Union, “[ihre] Anstrengungen im Blick auf die sich rapide verschlechternde Lage in Simbabwe zu verstärken”. Zu den wichtigsten Anliegen zählen die Bereitstellung von Nothilfe, eine Verschiebung der Stichwahl und die Verantwortung der internationalen Gemeinschaft, zum Schutz der Menschen einzugreifen.
In einem am Dienstag in Genf veröffentlichten Brief ersuchen der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) und der Christliche Studentenweltbund (WSCF) die drei internationalen Einrichtungen, “den humanitären Bedürfnissen des simbabwischen Volkes, seiner freien Religionsausübung, der Destabilisierung der politischen Situation und der Dringlichkeit einer Beendigung der Menschenrechtsverletzungen höchste Aufmerksamkeit” zu schenken.
In dem gemeinsamen Brief wird eine “internationale Intervention” zur Verteilung von Nahrungsmittelhilfen gefordert, da die Menschen “in einigen Gebieten Simbabwes akut von Hungersnot bedroht” sind. Ferner wird die Notwendigkeit einer politischen Lösung unterstrichen, die “unter Umständen eine Verschiebung der Wahl erforderlich macht”. Zudem sei es wichtig, dass die Gewalttäter vor Gericht zur Verantwortung gezogen würden. “Es darf keine Straffreiheit geben”, heißt es in dem Brief.
“Wir haben von unseren Brüdern und Schwestern in Simbabwe erfahren, dass einige Kirchen daran gehindert werden, Gottesdienste abzuhalten, während Gottesdienstbesucher in anderen Fällen mit Gewalt auseinandergetrieben wurden. Diese Zustände, die in den Medien auf wenig Interesse stoßen, sind inakzeptabel und erfordern dringend die Aufmerksamkeit der internationalen Gemeinschaft”, wird in dem von ÖRK-Generalsekretär Samuel Kobia und WSCF-Generalsekretär Michael Wallace unterzeichneten Brief betont.
Ferner wird darauf verwiesen, dass die internationale Gemeinschaft “in Extremsituationen die Pflicht hat […], im Interesse und zum Schutz der Menschen in die internen Angelegenheiten eines Staates einzugreifen”, ein Prinzip, das als “Schutzpflicht” bekannt ist.
