HANNOVER – Hochrangige Vertreter des Christentums, des Islams, des Judentums, des Buddhismus, des Hinduismus, des Schintoismus und indigener Religionen aus den G8-Staaten, aus dem Nahen Osten, aus Afrika und Asien kommen vom 2. bis 3. Juli, unmittelbar vor dem nächsten G8-Treffen in Japan, zu einem „World Religious Leaders Summit for Peace“ im japanischen Sapporo zusammen. Aus Deutschland wird der Vorsitzende des Rates der Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland (EKD), Bischof Wolfgang Huber, zu der Konferenz reisen. Im Mittelpunkt der Beratungen stehen die Themen Klimawandel, Armutsbekämpfung, nukleare Abrüstung, Terrorismus und Gewalt. Im vergangenen Jahr hatte ein solches Treffen vor dem G8-Gipfel von Heiligendamm auf Einladung des EKD-Ratsvorsitzenden in Köln stattgefunden.
Wolfgang Huber betonte im Vorfeld der Konferenz in Sapporo die Bedeutung der interreligiösen Beratungen. „Die Globalisierung der Märkte erfordert eine Globalisierung der Verantwortung. Ohne die Unterschiede zwischen den Religionen zu nivellieren, nehmen die Religionsgemeinschaften ihre Verantwortung auf diese Weise konstruktiv wahr. Sie mahnen zum Respekt vor der Schöpfung, sprechen sich für die Beteiligungsrechte der Ärmsten aus und lassen auch die Stimme der Länder des Südens nicht außen vor.“ Aufgrund der positiven Erfahrungen seien sich die Teilnehmer der Konferenz im vergangenen Jahr, die mit dem „Ruf aus Köln“ beendet worden war, schnell einig gewesen, dass es auch im Vorfeld des G8-Gipfels in Japan ein Religionsführertreffen geben sollte. Am Schluss der zweitägigen Konferenz in Sapporo soll wiederum ein Dokument verabschiedet und der japanischen Regierung als Gastgeber der G8-Staats- und Regierungschefs übergeben werden.
Unter den mehr als 50 eingeladenen Vertretern der Weltreligionen sind Vertreter der Anglikanischen Kirche, lutherischer und reformierter Kirchen, der römisch-katholischen Kirchen und orthodoxer Kirchen ebenso wie namhafte Vertreter des Islams, des Judentums und östlicher Religionen.
Zum ersten Mal fand eine ähnliche Konferenz mit Vertretern christlicher Kirchen anlässlich des G8-Gipfels in Schottland im Jahr 2005 statt. In Russland wurde dann anlässlich des G8-Gipfels 2006 ein „Religious Leaders Summit“ mit Vertretern der verschiedenen Weltreligionen veranstaltet.
