(ÖRK) – Kirchen in aller Welt sind eingeladen, am Sonntag, 22. Juni, einen Tag des Gebets für Simbabwe abzuhalten. Er soll eine Zeit einleiten, um regelmäßig für Bevölkerung und Regierung des gegenwärtig vor großen Herausforderungen stehenden afrikanischen Landes zu beten.
Der Tag des Gebets für Simbabwe wurde von simbabwischen Christinnen und Christen initiiert und findet kurz vor der Stichwahl um das Präsidentenamt statt, die am Freitag, 27. Juni, abgehalten werden soll.
“Die Bedeutung dieser Wahl – ihr fairer Ablauf, ihr Ergebnis und ihre Nachwirkungen – kann gar nicht hoch genug bewertet werden”, erklärt der Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Pfarrer Dr. Samuel Kobia, in einem Schreiben an die Mitgliedskirchen des ÖRK. Weiter heißt es dort: “Die kommenden Wochen stellen die Bevölkerung Simbabwes und die Welt vor die Herausforderung, Mittel und Wege zu finden, wie Gewalt in der Ausübung von Demokratie überwunden werden kann. Was geschieht, wird sich auswirken auf die Zukunft dieses Landes und der Region.”
