FRANKFURT – (APD) Der Völkerapostel Paulus hätte in mindestens zwanzig Ländern mit Gefängnis oder Tod zu rechnen, würde er wie zu seinen Lebzeiten heute als Missionar tätig sein. Darauf wies die Internationale Gesellschaft für Menschenrechte (IGFM) anlässlich des Paulus-Jahres hin, das am 28. Juni von Papst Benedikt XVI. zusammen mit dem orthodoxen Patriarchen Bartholomaios in der Paulusbasilika in Rom eröffnet wird und bis zum 29. Juni 2009 dauern soll. Die IGFM sieht in dem Jubiläumsjahr die Chance für ein Aufeinanderzugehen der Religionen und ein Aufbrechen der Abschottungspolitik durch Antimissionsgesetze. Insbesondere die Türkei, auf dessen Gebiet Paulus vor 2000 Jahren geboren wurde, sollte sich bemühen, eine den EU-Standards entsprechende Religionsfreiheit anzuerkennen und durchzusetzen.

VOLOS – In den vergangenen zehn Jahren haben die orthodoxen Frauen wichtige Meilensteine im Blick auf ihre Mitarbeit in der Kirche setzen können, doch sind viele ihrer Anliegen immer noch nicht aufgegriffen worden. Diese Bilanz zogen die Teilnehmerinnen einer internationalen Zusammenkunft orthodoxer Frauen. Vom 8.-12. Juni diskutierten sie in Volos, Griechenland, über Mitwirkung, Dienst und Anliegen orthodoxer Frauen in der Kirche und in der ökumenischen Bewegung.
Seit der letzten inter-orthodoxen Frauenkonsultation 1997 in Istanbul, Türkei, sind über zehn Jahre vergangen, in denen sich die Beteiligung der Frauen am Leben der Kirche verbessert hat. Bedeutende Meilensteine sind u.a. die Anerkennung von Frauenfragen durch die kirchlichen Strukturen und die Mitwirkung von Frauen in einer Reihe von kirchlichen Diensten und Entscheidungsprozessen.

GENF – Zwei internationale ökumenische Organisationen appellieren an die UNO, die Südafrikanische Entwicklungsgemeinschaft und die Afrikanische Union, “[ihre] Anstrengungen im Blick auf die sich rapide verschlechternde Lage in Simbabwe zu verstärken”. In einem am Dienstag in Genf veröffentlichten Brief ersuchen der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) und der Christliche Studentenweltbund (WSCF) die drei internationalen Einrichtungen, “den humanitären Bedürfnissen des simbabwischen Volkes, seiner freien Religionsausübung, der Destabilisierung der politischen Situation und der Dringlichkeit einer Beendigung der Menschenrechtsverletzungen höchste Aufmerksamkeit” zu schenken.

HANNOVER – Hochrangige Vertreter des Christentums, des Islams, des Judentums, des Buddhismus, des Hinduismus, des Schintoismus und indigener Religionen aus den G8-Staaten, aus dem Nahen Osten, aus Afrika und Asien kommen vom 2. bis 3. Juli, unmittelbar vor dem nächsten G8-Treffen in Japan, zu einem „World Religious Leaders Summit for Peace“ im japanischen Sapporo zusammen. Aus Deutschland wird der Vorsitzende des Rates der Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland (EKD), Bischof Wolfgang Huber, zu der Konferenz reisen. Im Mittelpunkt der Beratungen stehen die Themen Klimawandel, Armutsbekämpfung, nukleare Abrüstung, Terrorismus und Gewalt. Im vergangenen Jahr hatte ein solches Treffen vor dem G8-Gipfel von Heiligendamm auf Einladung des EKD-Ratsvorsitzenden in Köln stattgefunden.
