(APD) – Am 27. Januar 2008 feiern evangelische, katholische und orthodoxe Kirchengemeinden bundesweit den Ökumenischen Bibelsonntag. Im Mittelpunkt steht der Brief des Propheten Jeremia an die Israeliten in der babylonischen Gefangenschaft (Jeremia 29,1-14). Bei der Vorbereitung arbeiten die Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft, das Katholische Bibelwerk und die Ökumenische Centrale der Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen (ACK) zusammen.
Die Aufforderung “Suchet der Stadt Bestes” ist der bekannteste Satz aus Jeremia, Kapitel 29. Für die Israeliten im Exil heisst es, sich in der Fremde einzurichten. “Es geht um Lebenssicherung und Lebensfreude in schwieriger Lage und darum, bei allem Realitätssinn Hoffnung und Sehnsucht nicht zu verlieren,” schreiben Dr. Jan-A. Bühner, Generalsekretär der Deutschen Bibelgesellschaft, und Dr. Franz-Josef Ortkemper, Direktor des Katholischen Bibelwerks, im Arbeitsheft zum Bibelsonntag. Heute zeige der Brief, wie realistisch und pragmatisch die Bibel sei und wie sie zugleich die Sehnsucht nach einer besseren Welt und die Hoffnung auf Gottes Eingreifen wach halte.
Aus Anlass des Bibelsonntags rufen die Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft und das Katholische Bibelwerk zu Spenden für Projekte in der Ukraine und in China auf. In der Ukraine sollen Kinderbibeln in Waisenhäuser und Kinderheime gebracht werden. Freiwillige Helferinnen und Helfer spielen mit den Kindern und lesen ihnen aus den Kinderbibeln vor. Ohne Unterstützung der Aktion Weltbibelhilfe der Deutschen Bibelgesellschaft könnte die Ukrainische Bibelgesellschaft diese Arbeit nicht fortsetzen.
In China will die Katholische Bibelföderation einen Bibelfonds für die Erzdiözese Schenjang einrichten. Damit sollen bibeltheologische und bibelpastorale Ausbildungen sowie Bibelkurse und Bibelverbreitung in den Pfarrgemeinden gefördert werden.
Bereits seit 1965 werden in evangelischen Kirchengemeinden Kollekten für die weltweite Bibelverbreitung gesammelt. Der Bibelsonntag wird seit dem 31. Januar 1982 bundesweit ökumenisch gefeiert. Für die teilnehmenden Gemeinden ist der Bibelsonntag häufig Auftakt oder Abschluss einer Bibelwoche, die sich in 2008 mit Texten aus Jeremia beschäftigt.
