Dr. Samuel Kobia, am 5. September in Sibiu, Rumänien.
Kobia sprach vor ca. 2100 Delegierten aus einem Großteil der europäischen Kirchentraditionen anlässlich der Eröffnung der Dritten Europäischen Ökumenischen Versammlung, die er als „die weltweit größte regelmäßig stattfindende Zusammenkunft von kirchenleitenden Verantwortlichen aus römisch-katholischen, orthodoxen, anglikanischen und protestantischen Kirchen“ bezeichnete.
„Wir erwarten, dass die Kirchen Europas mit einer Stimme sprechen – nicht nur, was die Zukunft jener Länder anbelangt, die Teil eines integrierten Europas geworden sind, sondern auch im Hinblick auf die Zukunft der Bevölkerung aller europäischen Länder wie auch der Millionen von Einwanderern und Einwanderinnen aus Asien, Afrika, Nord-, Mittel- und Südamerika, dem Nahen Osten und der Pazifikregion, die in Europa leben und arbeiten“, erklärte Kobia.
Er betonte zudem, „die Kirchen überall in der Welt [...] [seien] bereit, die Kirchen in Europa zu unterstützen, insbesondere im Umgang mit dem Säkularismus“.
