MAGDEBURG – Der Magdeburger Bischof Feige wandte sich in einem offenen Brief über die jüngste römische Erklärung zur Ökumene an die evangelischen Christen. Er bezeichnet die Verlautbarung als “Salz in eine offene Wunde”.
Hier der Brief im Wortlaut: Liebe evangelische Schwestern und Brüder!
Ich kann es verstehen, wenn Sie die jüngste römische Erklärung schmerzt. Leider ist damit wieder Salz in eine offene Wunde gestreut worden; warum schon wieder und gerade jetzt, bleibt auch mir verborgen. Andererseits ist die grundsätzliche ökumenische Öffnung, die das II. Vatikanische Konzil gebracht hat, nicht zurückgenommen worden. Und das sollte man mindestens genauso beachten.
Auch wenn die katholische Kirche die eine Kirche Jesu Christi, wie wir sie gemeinsam im Glaubensbekenntnis bekennen, nach wie vor in sich konkret verwirklicht sieht, versteht sie das nicht mehr exklusiv, sie erkennt auch die anderen „Kirchen und kirchlichen Gemeinschaften“ als „Mittel des Heiles“ an und weiß sich mit ihnen verbunden. In welcher Beziehung diese zur einen Kirche des Glaubensbekenntnisses stehen, wird katholischerseits danach beurteilt, in welchem Umfang die Fülle des sakramentalen Lebens und der apostolischen Sukzession bewahrt wurde. Durch diese theologische Einordnung wird deren faktische Existenz und Selbstverständnis als Kirche jedoch nicht geleugnet.
Zudem vertritt die katholische Kirche nicht mehr die Meinung, dass die anderen zu ihr zurückzukehren hätten, sie verwirft jedoch eine Ökumene, die sich mit einer einfachen Anerkennung der bestehenden Verhältnisse zufrieden geben will. Sie teilt nicht die Vorstellung, dass die wahre Kirche nur unsichtbar oder aber eine gewisse Summe von Konfessionen sei. Das aber vertreten manche evangelischen Theologen in schroffer Absetzung von altkirchlichen Überzeugungen mit erstaunlich unfehlbarer Gewissheit.
Nachdem man sich in der theologischen Verständigung schon einmal viel näher war, scheint der Abstand inzwischen wieder größer geworden zu sein. Ich verhehle nicht, dass mich dabei auch manche evangelischen Profilierungsbestrebungen in Deutschland mit deutlich antikatholischen Abgrenzungen befremden.
Es hilft nicht, ungelöste Probleme unter den Teppich zu kehren und sich gegenseitig etwas vorzumachen. Wir sollten sie auf allen Ebenen offen, beharrlich und fair angehen, aber mit Achtung und Ehrfurcht voreinander. Dabei bedarf es sowohl des Verstandes als auch der Gefühle und des Herzens. Wer nur auf eines davon setzt, ist manchmal sehr schnell am Ende.
Da wir Christen in Deutschland über Jahrzehnte schon so gute Erfahrungen miteinander gemacht haben, hoffe ich, dass uns kritische Äußerungen – von welcher Seite auch immer – nicht gleich wieder polemisch gegeneinander aufbringen oder gemeinsame Ziele – vor allem das der Einheit – aus den Augen verlieren lassen.
Ich danke allen, die trotz persönlicher Betroffenheit die Kraft haben, besonnen zu bleiben. Lassen Sie sich nicht entmutigen, mit uns weiter nach Wegen zu größerer Gemeinsamkeit in Zeugnis und Dienst zu suchen.
