BERLIN – Mit einem ökumenischen Gottesdienst in der Berliner Gedenkstätte Plötzensee haben am Freitag die beiden großen Kirchen des gescheiterten Hitler-Attentats vor 63 Jahren gedacht. Der katholische Pater Karl Meyer aus Hamburg erinnerte in seiner Predigt vor rund 200 Gottesdienstbesuchern an Widerstandskämpfer und Oppositionelle des Nazi-Regimes, die in Plötzensee hingerichtet wurden.
Zum Andenken an den 20. Juli 1944 gehörten nicht bloß “Reden und später Beifall”. Dieses verlange vielmehr Achtsamkeit gegenüber Fremdenfeindlichkeit und “Feldern sich anbahnender Vernichtung”, zu denen der katholische Geistliche auch Abtreibung und den Umgang mit Bootsflüchtlingen und alten Menschen zählte.
Mit einer Kranzniederlegung im Ehrenhof des Bendlerblocks in der Berliner Gedenkstätte Deutscher Widerstand wollte die Bundesregierung am Mittag an den Umsturzversuch gegen Hitler erinnern. Im Hof des Bendlerblocks waren der Hitler-Attentäter Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg und seine Mitverschwörer in der Nacht zum 21. Juli 1944 standrechtlich erschossen worden.

Weshalb man des wohl dilettantischsten Attentates gedenkt, wissen wohl nur die Organisatoren. Vielleicht sind eben deshalb nur 200 gekommen.
Hätte Claus Schenk seine Mission ausgeführt und nicht nach deren Scheitern behauptet, er hätte sich von Hitlers Tod überzeugt, wäre der Umsturz nicht angelaufen und die Verschwörer hätten überlebt.
Wenn schon Gedenken, dann an Georg Elser, der den Krieg verhindern wollte und sich viel mehr Mühe gab. Auch er wurde ermordet und hatte es nicht erst versucht, als alles zu spät war.
