ISRAEL – Der Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Pfr. Dr. Samuel Kobia, wird vom 21. bis 26. Juni Mitgliedskirchen und christliche Gemeinden in den besetzten palästinensischen Gebieten und in Israel besuchen. Mit dem Besuch, der direkt nach der Eröffnung des vom ÖRK unterstützten Ökumenischen Palästina/Israel-Forum in Amman, Jordanien, stattfindet (siehe ÖRK-Pressemitteilung vom 12. Juni), soll die weltweite Solidarität der Kirchen mit den Kirchen im heiligen Land zum Ausdruck gebracht werden und ausserdem unsere Sorge um die Zukunft der beiden vom israelisch-palästinensischen Konflikt betroffenen Völker übermittelt werden.
“Die Mitgliedskirchen des ÖRK glauben, dass christliche Gemeinschaften im Heiligen Land ein historischer und wesentlicher Bestandteil der Region sind und dass ihre Zukunft und ihr Wohl mit der Zukunft und dem Wohl von Muslimen und Juden verbunden ist,” sagt Kobia.
Kobia wird mit den Oberhäuptern der Kirchen in Jerusalem zusammen treffen, in der dortigen St. Georgskathedrale predigen und einige biblische Stätten in der Nähe von Jerusalem und Galiläa besuchen.
Treffen mit den wichtigsten Rabbinaten Israels, dem Höheren Islamischen Rat und dem Mufti von Jerusalem und Palästina sind geplant, ebenso wie hochrangige Begegnungen sowohl mit der israelischen Regierung als auch mit der palästinensischen Behörde.
Der ÖRK-Generalsekretär wird Yad Vashem besuchen, eine Erinnerungsstätte an die sechs Millionen jüdischen Opfer des Holocaust, und die Westliche Mauer, ein Überrest des jüdischen zweiten Tempels. Kobia wird an einem Gottesdienst in der Synagoge und an einer Sabbat-Mahlzeit teilnehmen.
Auch ein Besuch der al-Aqsa-Moschee in Jerusalem steht auf dem Programm. Zu der Reise gehören direkte Kontakte – unter anderem in palästinensischen Städten und Flüchtlingslagern am Westufer – mit den Nöten der Palästinenser, die durch die israelische Besetzung ihrer Gebiete verursacht werden.
Kobia wird mit Freiwilligen zusammen treffen, die im Ökumenischen Begleitprogramm in Palästina und Israel (EAPPI) arbeiten und ihre tägliche Arbeit mit Flüchtlingen, israelischen Friedensgruppen und an den Übergangspunkten in der Trennungsgrenze kennen lernen.
