HANNOVER – Die Konferenz Europäischer Kirchen (KEK) hat sich für die Aufnahme verbindlicher Grundrechte in den Vertrag der Europäischen Union ausgesprochen. Zum Abschluss ihrer jährlichen Gesamttagung vom 15. bis 19. Juni in Armenien forderte die Kommission Kirche und Gesellschaft der KEK die Staats- und Regierungschefs der EU auf, die in der EU-Verfassung formulierten sozialen Aussagen zu erhalten. Der Einsatz gegen Arbeitslosigkeit, die Garantie angemessenen sozialen Schutzes, der Kampf gegen soziale Ausgrenzung und für ein hohes Bildungsniveau seien maßgebliche Elemente des sozialen Zusammenhaltes, die im künftigen EU-Vertrag enthalten sein müssten. “Wir brauchen eine bessere Balance zwischen wirtschaftlichen, sozialen und ökologischen Elementen”, betonte Antje Heider-Rottwilm, Co-Moderatorin der Kommission und Leiterin der Europa-Abteilung im Kirchenamt der Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland (EKD).
Antje Heider-Rottwilm kündigte an, dass die KEK im kommenden Jahr einen Austausch zwischen den europäischen Kirchen und den politischen Institutionen der EU über die Rolle der Religionsgemeinschaften im öffentlichen Raum beginnen werde. “Um einen Beitrag in den aktuellen Debatten leisten zu können, die die Menschen in Europa bewegen, brauchen die Kirchen geeignete institutionelle Rahmenbedingungen.” Ulrich Bunjes vom Koordinationsbüro für Interkulturellen Dialog des Europarates betonte, wie wichtig die Beiträge der europäischen Kirchen für die politischen Institutionen seien. Der Europarat könne seine Ziele nur gemeinsam mit den Kirchen und Religionsgemeinschaften erreichen: “Nicht ohne sie und ganz bestimmt nicht gegen sie.”
Bei ihrer Tagung hatte die KEK sich auch für einen verstärkten Einsatz der EU im aktuellen Konflikt in Palästina ausgesprochen. “Wir drängen die internationale Gemeinschaft, insbesondere die EU, zur Verbesserung der Situation beizutragen.” In einem Schreiben kritisierte die Kommission, dass die internationale Gemeinschaft bisher zu wenig Engagement für einen dauerhaften Frieden in der Region gezeigt habe. In diesem Zusammenhang äußerten die KEK-Vertreterinnen und Vertreter ihr Mitgefühl für die Menschen in der Region. “Die derzeitige Gewalteskalation in den Palästinensergebieten hat tief greifende Auswirkungen auf die Lebensbedingungen aller Menschen und aller Religionsgemeinschaften im Nahen Osten”, erklärte Antje Heider-Rottwilm. Die gegenwärtige Situation dürfe nicht als Krieg der Religionen oder Zivilisationen missverstanden werden. “Wir sehen sie als eine sehr ernste Herausforderung an die Sicherheitslage der Region und der ganzen Welt.” Glaubensgemeinschaften hätten die Möglichkeit, vertrauensbildend zu wirken.
Die Kommission sei von der Gastfreundschaft der Armenischen Apostolischen Kirche sowohl im Gottesdienst als auch im alltäglichen Leben der geistlichen Gemeinschaft am Sitz des Katholikos Karekin II in Etchmiadzin beeindruckt gewesen, berichtete Antje Heider-Rottwilm. Der Besuch von Kirchen und Klöstern der traditionsreichen armenischen christlichen Kultur sowie eine Gedenkveranstaltung an der Erinnerungsstätte für die Opfer des Genozid habe einen guten Einblick in die Geschichte des armenischen Volkes gegeben.
