MALATYA – Der “brutale Mord” an drei Christen in Malatya, Türkei, am 18. April ist “die jüngste Tragödie” in einer Reihe von “Morden und Drohungen, deren Opfer Angehörige und Führer religiöser Minderheiten sind”. Diese Vorfälle sind “zutiefst Besorgnis erregend” und lösen “Abscheu und Schrecken” aus, schreibt der Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Pfr. Dr. Samuel Kobia, in seiner Botschaft an die türkischen Behörden.
In einem Schreiben vom 1. Mai 2007 an die Adresse der Ständigen Vertretung der Türkei bei den Vereinten Nationen in Genf, Schweiz, erklärt Kobia, dass “Kirchen sowie Bürger und Bürgerinnen aufmerksam verfolgen, ob die Behörden in dem Fall [der drei ermordeten Christen] für Gerechtigkeit sorgen und weitere Verbrechen verhindern”.
Das Schreiben enthält eine “beklagenswerte Liste” von Verbrechen, die “scheinbar von Hass auf ganze Personengruppen ausgelöst werden”. Die Liste erwähnt auch die Ermordung des armenischen Journalisten Hrant Dink und des katholischen Priesters Bruder Andrea Santano.
Darüber hinaus wird auf eine Reihe von Vorfällen hingewiesen, die zu Drohungen und Gewaltanwendung gegen Angehörige religiöser Minderheiten geführt haben. In diesem Zusammenhang gehören “Presseberichte über geplante Anschläge auf das Leben der Führer zweier ÖRK-Mitgliedskirchen in der Türkei”, nämlich des Ökumenischen Patriarchen Bartholomaios I. und des Armenischen Patriarchen Mesrob II.
Der ÖRK-Generalsekretär weist darauf hin, dass angesichts dieser Vorfälle “Kirchen und Menschen guten Willens auf der ganzen Welt alarmiert sind”, und erklärt, dass die zuständigen Regierungsbehörden “für die Einhaltung der Menschenrechte und der Rechtsstaatlichkeit sorgen” sollten, “die alle Bürger schützt, einschließlich diejenigen, die Gegenstand dieses Schreibens sind”. Insbesondere, so Kobia, “erwarten wir, dass sich die Achtung der Menschenwürde – sozial, politisch und religiös – in der Behandlung von Kirchen und anderen religiösen Minderheiten widerspiegelt”.
Während in dem Schreiben “die ausdrückliche Verurteilung solcher Morde durch Regierungsvertreter” als ein “wichtiger positiver Faktor” bezeichnet und die Unterstützung der Regierung für “die in der türkischen Verfassung festgelegte Religionsfreiheit” hervorgehoben wird, heißt es dort auch, dass “Fortschritte bei der Behandlung dieser Themen” im Einklang mit der “einzigartigen Geschichte” und dem Beitrag der Türkei “zum Frieden in einer pluralistischen Welt” stehen würden.
