MAGDEBURG – Zum ersten Mal werden am 29. April die Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland (EKD), die Deutsche Bischofskonferenz, orthodoxe und altorientalische Kirchen sowie Freikirchen auf der Ebene der Bundesrepublik Deutschland eine förmliche Erklärung über die wechselseitige Anerkennung der Taufe unterzeichnen. Die Unterzeichnung der Vereinbarung findet im Rahmen eines ökumenischen Gottesdienstes am 29. April um 17 Uhr im Magdeburger Dom statt.
Dort werden leitende Vertreter der 11 beteiligten Kirchen anwesend sein, darunter der Ratsvorsitzende der EKD, Bischof Wolfgang Huber, und der Vorsitzende der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz, Karl Kardinal Lehmann. Gastgeber ist der Bischof der Evangelischen Kirche der Kirchenprovinz Sachsen, Bischof Axel Noack. Es predigt Bischof em. Walter Klaiber (Evangelisch-methodistische Kirche).
Seit gut 30 Jahren gibt es in Deutschland einzelne regionale Vereinbarungen zwischen Gliedkirchen der EKD und Römisch-Katholischen Diözesen zur wechselseitigen Anerkennung der Taufe. Eine Vereinbarung auf der Ebene der EKD oder der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz gab es bisher nicht. Im Mai 2002 ging vom Präsidenten des Päpstlichen Rates zur Förderung der Einheit der Christen, Walter Kardinal Kasper, die Initiative aus, sich in den Bischofskonferenzen mit dem Thema Taufe und mit der ökumenischen Bedeutung der wechselseitigen Anerkennung der Taufe zu beschäftigen und zwischen den Kirchen entsprechende Vereinbarungen zu unterzeichnen. Die Deutsche Bischofskonferenz hat diese Initiative aus Rom aufgenommen und vorgeschlagen, die wechselseitige Taufanerkennung für den gesamten Bereich der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz und der EKD anzustreben. Eine Arbeitsgruppe, der auch Vertreter der Kommission der Orthodoxen Kirche in Deutschland (KOKiD), der Evangelisch-methodistischen Kirche (zugleich für weitere Freikirchen) und der Altkatholiken (zugleich für die Anglikanische Kirche) angehörten, erarbeitete einen Text, dem der Rat der EKD und der Ständige Rat der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz zugestimmt haben.
Folgende Kirchen haben diesem gemeinsamen Text zugestimmt:

- Katholisches Bistum der Alt-Katholiken in Deutschland
- Orthodoxe Kirche in Deutschland
- Römisch-Katholische Kirche
- Selbständige Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche
Der Ökumenische Gottesdienst wird gestaltet von Vertretern der unterzeichnenden Kirchen. Der EKD-Ratsvorsitzende, Bischof Wolfgang Huber, wird in den Gottesdienst einführen, der Vorsitzende der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz, Karl Kardinal Lehmann, wird die Festgemeinde mit einer Taufbeauftragung entsenden. Bischof em. Walter Klaiber (Evangelisch-methodistische Kirche) wird die Predigt halten. Für die Kirchen der Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen (ACK), die die Taufanerkennung nicht unterzeichnen, wird Pastor Werner Funck (Mennoniten) ein Grußwort sprechen. Ein Grund für die damit gegebene Zurückhaltung liegt in der theologischen Wertung der Kindertaufe.

Die Abendmahlsgemeinschaft ist zwischen vielen Kirchen bereits Realität. So feiern die Evangelische, die Alt-Katholische und die Anglikanische Kirche schon längst miteinander Abendmahl/Eucharistie (wie beispielsweise auf dem Ökumenischen Kirchentag 2003 in Berlin, wo u.a. die Evangelische Bischöfin Maria Jepsen und der Alt-Katholische Bischof Joachim Vobbe gemeinsam am Abendmahlstisch/Altar standen und das Abendmahls-/Eucharistiegebet gesprochen haben).
Und die Evangelisch-methodistische Kirche lädt, genau wie die Alt-Katholische oder die Evangelische, alle getauften Christinnen und Christen zum Abendmahl / zur Eucharistie ein.
