LUND / SCHWEDEN – (APD) Nach Ansicht von Kardinal Walter Kasper ist die Ökumene ein Beitrag zur Einheit Europas. “Unsere ökumenischen Versöhnungsprozesse sollten ein ansteckendes und ermutigendes Beispiel sein”, sagte der Präsident des Päpstlichen Rates zur Förderung der Einheit der Christen (PCPCU) am 24. März an der Kirchenleiterkonferenz und Ratstagung des Lutherischen Weltbundes (LWB) im schwedischen Lund. “Ein Scheitern der Ökumene könnten wir weder vor Gott noch vor der Geschichte verantworten”, ergänzte Kasper in seiner Antwort auf eine Rede des UN-Sondergesandten und früheren finnischen Präsidenten, Martti Ahtisaari, zum Thema “Haus Europa”.
Der UN-Vermittler Ahtisaari, selbst ein lutherischer Christ, betonte, dass die Kirchen ihre Rolle als moralische Autorität nutzen sollten und sich nicht durch die Politik instrumentalisieren lassen dürften. Die Kirchen könnten bei den dringend erforderlichen institutionellen Reformen in der Europäischen Union eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Ein wesentlicher Pfeiler sei dabei der interreligiöse Dialog, so Ahtisaari.
Kasper sprach sich für die Integration von Ost- und Westeuropa aus. “Die ökumenische Annäherung zwischen orientalischen und westlichen Kirchen bietet dafür eine einmalige Chance”, betonte er. Ausserdem trat Kasper für die Gastfreundschaft gegenüber anderen Religionen und Kulturen ein, auch gegenüber dem Islam.
“Europa braucht eine Seele”, forderte Kasper. Der “geistige Kitt” von Werten und Idealen verbinde die Menschen über alle Unterschiede hinweg. Der Staatenbund kann nach Ansicht des katholischen Theologen kein zentralistischer Staat sein. “Es muss darum Schluss sein mit dem Europa der Bürokraten und ihrer zentralistischen Regelungswut.“ Stattdessen müsse die Europäische Union bürgernah sein.
Ein materialistischer Neo-Kapitalismus, ein sinnentleerter Konsumismus und eine moralische Laxheit seien keine Basis. “Europa braucht eine zweite Bekehrung zu Jesus Christus. Europa muss aufwachen, vielleicht sogar aufschrecken”, so Kasper. Das europäische Haus stehe und falle mit wachen, mutigen und mündigen Christen, “die sich nicht wegducken, die vielmehr mit Freimut eintreten für den Glauben, für das Leben, für Freiheit und Gerechtigkeit, für die Familie, für Solidarität und für die Bewahrung der Schöpfung.”
